You know how berries is touted as THE SUPEROOD you must have if you are trying to eat healthier and / or boost your immunity? Well….I am not here to debate that. BUT, I am here to point out to those of us living in Thailand, that we need to open our minds and mouths to 3 other fruits. Especially if you are tired of paying the astronomically high priced imported berries here.
Drum roll……….introducing, in no particular order of importance…
Papayas – They are so rich in immune building vitamins A and C. For constipation issues, THIS is the fruit that will take you straight to the bathroom (so, on that note, also be wary of over-consumption). Most of us are more occupied with eating the sweet fruity flesh. But don’t forget the seeds which can help prevent cancer and lower the risk against certain strains of fungi infections (ladies…yeast infection, for example).
Pineapples – Bromelain, the special super duper enzyme in pineapples literally scavenges for free radicals in your body and rids of them. Also anti-inflammatory, bromelain helps to reduce swelling in osteoarthritis patients. Also, the bromelain can reduce inflammations in the nasal passages during common colds and sinus infection (especially in children).
Pomegranates – OK, you might run away from them when you see this fruit’s price. In fact, you might be yelling at me silently at how ridiculous I am for recommending a fruit that cost more than a pack of imported berries here in Thailand. But hear me out. This fruit, when opened can likely feed you 2-3 separate times. Filled with abundant amount (trust me) of edible sweet seeds, you will be wondering where these gems have been all your life. One pomegranate has 3x the antioxidants when compared to most fruits. Juicing its seeds will provide your body 40% of your daily vitamin C needs. Also, bonus – they are antiviral and antibacterial.
